Velvet Maxi & 4 Ways To Get Out Of A Creative Rut

If you read yesterday’s BTBS post, then you know that I have been in a creative rut recently. This totally happens to me from time to time. I do notice it happens a lot when I get back from traveling, but this time it’s lasted longer than I expected. I always feel so inspired whenever I am away and it refreshes my mind, but then when I come back home I lose that newfound inspo too quickly. I think that this time, there were some things going on within my family that welcomed me home. And then, I just got sucked back into the day-to-day stresses. I tend to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders sometimes and traveling is the only time I truly feel free. I keep trying to find ways to release myself from that weight when I am home. It’s a process, but I am getting there slowly.

If you’re the creative type like me, then you’ve probably seen first hand what it feels like to be creatively drained. It’s bound to happen at some point, especially when you’ve been doing the same thing for such a long time. That is one of the main reasons why I rebranded and completely redesigned my site. It’s also the reason I started introducing other types of content on here that goes beyond fashion. It’s been the best decision for me. I think that I started to focus so much more on travel, general lifestyle and personal pieces that I began to neglect my style content. Through that, I started to lose some of my inspiration for shooting outfits. This doesn’t mean that I no longer want to share my style because I definitely do. I still have a passion for this. I just think it means that it’s time for another change and until I figure out exactly what that is, I’m going to experiment with a few different ideas. I never want to force my content, so if it doesn’t feel right to me for whatever reason then I rather not share it at all.

While I haven’t yet mastered this myself [hey, I’m a work in progress], there are a few things that I tend to do to get my creative juices flowing again. Here are 4 ways to help pull you out of that creative hole.

Take A Break – Sometimes you just need to take a step back from your work. The important thing is to not overthink. Overthinking kills creativity. Trust me, I know this first hand. Whenever I feel like I have writer’s block or can’t find the desire to create content, I take a day [or even days] to myself. It’s good to completely unplug when you need to.

Look For New Inspiration – It’s important to stay inspired. Sometimes we just have to look in new places. I always come across inspirational people and images on Instagram and Pinterest. Take note of what speaks to you. Why does it speak to you? Don’t copy ideas, but instead find ways to give things your own unique spin.

Travel/Change Of Scenery – Like I said above, I always get inspired when I travel. [I just need to keep that inspo here at home!] This doesn’t mean that you have to fly across the country though. Take a weekend getaway or even a day trip to someplace you’ve never been before. It really does help.

New Direction – If you run a blog like me, then maybe it’s time to take things in a new direction. Redesign your website. Change up your IG feed. Invest in a new lens. Maybe even rebrand completely. That feeling of a fresh start can do wonders for you and open up new creative doors.

Side note: We shot these 3 weeks ago and I finally put it up! This velvet maxi made me feel so fierce! My mom really got down on the ground to capture the movement of that close-up shot. Thanks mom! 😊 I scored this beauty on major sale at Bloomies a few months ago. Initially bought it for Cabo and never wore it. I finally put it to good use. Such a great find. I still can’t get over the detailing.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoyed this style story. I leave tomorrow morning for Denver for a quick work trip with Volkswagen, so I might not be present on here again until Monday. I will be on IG though, so make sure that you follow along with my insta-stories! Hopefully I’ll be able to get enough content to do a mini Denver Diary of my trip. Happy Wednesday!

Great tips! I felt the exact same way when I got back from Europe. I think its because I was in enchantment overload, and then to come back to good old Jersey left me feel underwhelmed and meh. It’s hard to go from seeing spectacular sites and then return to the mundane day-to-day. But I think it’s important to also find the spectacular in the mundane, it’s all about perspective. <3

So true girl! We do need to find the spectacular in the mundane. Thanks for the reminder. 🙂

This is beautiful babes! As far as creative blocks go, maybe it’s time for an expasion of your brand. I could really see you doing a successful clothing or make-up line. It’s A LOT of work, but I think it’d be good for you!

Love that you mentioned that! It’s actually something I’ve been giving thought to. I really want my book to be the next big venture, but that takes a lot of time. Would love to venture out into something else in the near future too. Thanks for the support! xo
