How To: Big Messy Bun

Happy hair day!

I seriously need to get my butt back on youtube.  I know, I have been saying this for almost two years.  I am still trying to figure out the best way to start shooting again and I swear that I really do plan to relaunch my channel, I just don’t know when.  But for now, I am hoping photo tutorials will do the trick!  Lately, I have been rocking a big messy bun.  No “sock” required.  It’s actually a super quick hairstyle and after doing it a couple of times, it gets easier.  I have been getting some questions on instagram about how I do this, so I thought I would do a post about it.  I really hope this makes sense and that it helps.  All you need is your hair (duh), a hair tie, bobby pins and hair spray. Let’s get started!

I usually do this the day after curling my hair.  This way my hair is a little dirty and the curls are loose and messy.  The messier, the better.  I find that my hair is easier to style the day after it’s been washed.

Next, I gather my hair up as if I am going to put it into a ponytail.  The trick though is to not do an actual ponytail.  You just want to throw it up in a messy way and make sure the ends of your hair are sticking out.  I know my hair looks crazy in this photo, but I promise it will look better in the end. 🙂

Now this is when I start forming the bun.  I pull the hair out a little bit to make it bigger.  You can make it look as big and as messy as you want it to.  I pin the ends down into place and start doing this until everything is how I want it to look.  Make sure to get the back really good.  Sometimes this can be a little difficult when my hair is not cooperating.  For the most part though, it only takes a few minutes!

Last step is hair spray!  You can obviously use any brand.  Lately, I have been using L’Oreal LOCK IT.  It’s been great so far for keeping my hairstyles in place.  (how cool is that 1st spray shot?!)  After spraying, I like to make sure everything is pinned down and that the shape looks good.  And that’s it!

Every time I do this, it comes out a little bit different.  This time is was not as messy as normal, but I think that is also because my curls were extra loose.  Let me know if you have any questions and if you would like to see more hair tutorials! I am leaving for the airport in literally 3 hours and haven’t slept yet.  Yikes!  Thanks for checking out this post and I hope you liked it. 🙂

I’ll be back soon!
