5 Personal Goals For 2018

Happy New Year! Page one of 2018. What will you write in this new chapter?

As I mentioned in my end of the year highlights post, I don’t really make resolutions. Instead, I like to set specific goals for myself with an action plan. It’s not just about what I want to achieve, but more so the steps that I have to take in order to make it all happen.

Whether you make a physical list of these goals or incorporate them into a vision board, it’s important to believe in yourself and know that you can and will accomplish them all!

Since it’s officially January 1st, I figured the best way to kick off 2018 would be by sharing some of my own personal goals for the year. I often find that when I write these out and share them publicly, it holds me more accountable.

Move To NYC.

Over the last few years, I have worked extremely hard to hit this goal. It has required a lot of saving and getting my financials in check. In order to do that, I had to make some significant lifestyle changes. I stayed home a lot on the weekends. I didn’t give in to the urge of buying designer pieces (although I would love to invest in my first designer bag for my 35th!) I tried to make my personal travels as affordable as possible.

This past year I got the closest I’ve ever been to making this vision come to life. I hit my savings account goal. I was able to pay off a high interest credit card. (FINALLY- it took years) And then, everything fell into place and I found an apartment – the cutest and most charming petite studio alcove.

But now, I wait to find out if it will actually be mine. If for whatever reason I don’t get this place, I will still continue to look for something else. 2018 is the year that I will move to NYC. Whatever it takes, I will bring the dream to life. I hope I get word back very soon as I can’t wait to share the full story and more about the apartment with all of you!

Start Writing My Book.

For me, writing has always been the root of everything in my life. I fell in love with it at such a young age. In so many ways, it’s impacted me and I’ve loved developing this skill throughout the last several years. This blog has given me the opportunity to do that. I announced last year that I was going to finally embark on the new journey of writing my very first book – a lifelong dream that dates back to the 5th grade.

In all honesty, I did not get very far with it. For some reason that I can’t explain, I continuously put this dream on the back burner. Sometimes I think it’s because so much of my life story is still unwritten. Other times I think that the vulnerability of a book scares the hell out of me. Either way, I have to stop letting that hold me back. I promised my father that one day I would be a published author. I will not break that promise.

I’ve received messages over the last several months where some of you have told me that you can’t wait to read my book. That’s motivated me more than you know! So this year, I plan to write a little bit each week, whether it’s one page or several paragraphs. I just need to get through the beginning of this process and the rest of it will start to flow.

Create A New Platform.

It’s been 6 years since I first created this blog. I have definitely come to a transitional point where I can’t help but question, “What next?” This blog will always serve as the foundation for what’s to come. I’ve always wanted to be able to expand and create a new business venture or even another platform. Maybe both?

After a lot of thought, I’ve been playing around with the idea of starting my own podcast or creating video content. I did a poll on my Insta Stories last week and the majority of you who voted said that you would prefer to see videos rather than listen to a podcast. I also got several messages asking if I would consider doing both.

I’m honestly still a little torn on which direction I want to personally take, but I definitely plan to create a different type of content this year. I am ready to expand and can’t wait to see what will come from it. What would you like to see from me?

Get Back On Track With Fitness.

As my lifestyle seems to constantly change, the harder it becomes for me to keep up a consistent fitness routine. I went from doing the BBG program and taking weekly Cyclebar classes to becoming completely inactive once again. I lost myself a little bit over the last few months of the year when I stopped working out and began to eat crappy far too frequently. Between weddings, birthdays and the holidays right after one another, I found it difficult to create the right balance. I started to feel like shit.

It’s not about the number on the scale. I stopped obsessing about that a long time ago. For me, it’s about getting stronger and making healthier choices. This year, I plan to challenge myself more physically whether that’s taking boxing classes in the city or running a few races. I want this to be a very active year for me and a year that I treat my body better.

More Travel.

This is always going to be a personal goal for me. In so many ways, it’s changed my life. Living in New York is going to be extremely expensive, but I don’t want that to prevent me from traveling this year. I did have to put my personal travels on a little pause this past fall season, but there are so many more places that I still want to visit.

I do have one big international trip in the works for August, which I am looking forward to. I would also love to check out a few other new places during the year. There’s one trip I hope to book for the spring, but I’m waiting until I know for sure what will happen with the move.

I definitely still want to do more solo traveling, I just have to be realistic when it comes to my finances and figure out which places will work best within my budget. There are plenty of ways to travel without breaking the bank and I plan to tap into more of those this year. I think I am going to create another Travel Bucket List so that I can share all of the countries/cities that I hope to visit in 2018!

Thanks for reading! Now, tell me one of your goals for 2018, Let’s crush them together! ❤️
